SGMW manufactures benchmark fenders with System Engineering tools
Debut! thyssenkrupp System Engineering supplies highly sophisticated tools to the Chinese automobile joint venture SAIC-GM Wuling Automobile (SGMW) based in Liuzhou. The order includes tools for fenders, side panels and outside door shells. SGMW intends to make the fenders System Engineering’s tools will be producing the new benchmark for its models.
“Projects with a new customer are always something special,” project leaders Hans-Ludwig Buck and Michael Rauber tell us. “The distance between Lockweiler and Liuzhou is 8 833 kilometers. First contacts were primarily developed via e-mail and phone. However, an understanding between us and our Chinese customer was soon developed. After an SE phase, the tools were designed and manufactured in Lockweiler. Customer deadlines demanded clearly reduced production time. Compared to similar projects, the tools were actually ready for shipment two to three weeks earlier. The entire team is elated that “our” fender is destined to be the benchmark at SGMW.”
Communication with SGMW staff coming to Lockweiler was in Chinese. The same was true for training on the tools at SGMW in Liuzhou. Our colleagues Zhenggui Wang and Cheng Cheng from System Engineering China were the partial project leaders and also doubled as translators. Hans-Ludwig Buck: “These two did a great job here.”
In the meantime SGMW has also placed an order with System Engineering for an additional consulting project called “D1”. Both companies are busy developing more opportunities for cooperation in the field of system projects through simultaneous engineering, process development, prototype construction, tools, shell line and matching.
SGMW was founded on 18 November 2002. It is a joint venture of General Motors China and local partners SAIC Motor Corporation Ltd. and Liuzhou Wuling Motors Co. Ltd. The company has manufacturing facilities in Liuzhou (headquarters), Qingdao and Chongqing. SGMW manufactures the Wuling und Baojun utility and passenger vehicles.
