Major order for body-in-white
production lines
thyssenkrupp System Engineering to supply highly automated, flexible body production lines for the new Mercedes-Benz C Class
thyssenkrupp System Engineering has received a further major car body production order from Daimler. The engineering specialist is to supply highly automated body-in-white (BIW) lines for the production of the new Mercedes-Benz C Class. The order includes the planning, engineering, manufacture, installation and commissioning of the lines.
The BIW lines will be used to manufacture the bodies for a number of variants of the new C Class including saloon, station wagon, coupé, convertible and SUV. They will integrate more than 600 industrial robots.
The German premium car manufacturer and thyssenkrupp have already collaborated on various car body production projects in the past, including the planning and manufacturing of production lines for the body of the smart fortwo in Hambach, Germany.
